Expressive Watercolour Faces

Thursday 4th November 2021

Narberth - Bloomfield Centre

  • Faces can represent a challenge, especially in watercolour, which often puts people off; but with a few pointers we can soon start creating expressive portraits and paintings of people, and have a lot of fun doing it!

  • We will kick off with a theory section looking at how to construct a face and then how to create volume with the watercolour itself. We will also home in on the individual features and look at some easy processes to tackle each of them

  • This theory will be a mixture of quick demos followed by having a go yourself

  • After the theory there will be a demo. This will be split into two parts. We will start with the drawing and first layer. Followed by guided individual painting to get to the same point

  • The second half will be bringing in the shadows and details and creating a finished painting

  • Individual painting time will be guided with one on one time as much as possible

  • Along with materials, watercolour process and techniques; we will look specifically at proportions, placing features, how to look for and paint light and shadow, and how individual features can be tackled, along with bringing this all together in a finished painting!
