Atmosphere, light & mood

All mediums & abilities

Mysterious landscapes and misty beaches to moody jazz clubs and bustling streets how do we create that lovely atmosphere in a painting??...Looking for the light has a lot to do with but we will also look at all the aspects involved in this type of scene.

Lots of tricks and tips in this one to help create dramatic atmosphere and lighting. After all even a couple of cream crackers can like moody and mysterious given the right lighting setting.

Amongst other things we will look at:

  • What makes an atmospheric painting

  • How to interpret your scene in a way that creates this

  • Capturing light with tone

  • Creating a mood with colour

  • Limited colour palettes and colour schemes

  • Choosing a focal point

  • What to enhance

  • What to leave out

  • Hard, soft and lost edges...what and where??

There have been various past workshops on the topic of lighting and capturing it.  This day is designed to go deeper into really using the foundations of painting to get an almost cinematic drama and atmosphere into your work. This should be a fun one!
