One day Workshops

Saturday 25th September 2018

Birds & animals

All mediums & abilities

Whether painting them small in a landscape, painting a large group or making one or two animals the main focus of a painting a few fundamentals can make a huge difference to capturing that all important feeling of 'life'.

We won't being going deep into the anatomy. This will be a look at some basic anatomy and things to watch out for, and rather than photorealistic representation of fur and feathers we will be looking at a more impressionistic approach to give the feeling of feathers, fur and hair.

As well as the usual basics of shape, tone and colour, we will be looking specifically at:

  • Comparative anatomy across all animals & birds. Very useful in understanding the basics of how animals are put together, this really helps to get a feeling of life.

  • Breaking any animal, or individual parts of animal, into simple shapes

  • Creating form

  • Proportions

  • Lines of motion and creating movement

  • Giving an impression of fur, feathers and fur

  • Creating exciting texture on the above

  • ...and of course eyes, feet & wet noses!!!

This will be a great introduction into painting animals and I hope that even experienced animal painters would gain plenty from this workshop.
