“My paintings are a way for me to explore the wonder of the world around me, everything from exotic wildlife and the intrigue of places and people far from home, to simply the shadows cast across a sunlit street right outside my front door. What fascinates me most is the way light brings the subject to life.”
I was born in Leamington Spa in 1985 and as far back as I can remember I had a real interest in painting and drawing which continued all the way through my school years. After a slight deviation from the world of creativity for a few years, in 2010 I found myself working freelance creating custom artwork for guitars and other musical instruments.
In 2011 I made a move towards fine art painting, studying for a 6 month period as an apprentice in a working artist’s studio. Since then I have exhibited work at various venues around the UK, as well as running a pop up gallery in Stratford-On-Avon.
I spent a year painting as an artist residence in the Arts Trail Gallery, Leamington Spa, where I got over my fear of painting in front of an audience, paving the way for a string of live painting demonstrations for local art societies.
The spring of 2014 saw me move into my own studio space on the edge of the Cotswolds. This is now where I create the majority of my work and I am enjoying painting more than ever before.
I recently exhibited two paintings in the Mall Galleries as part of the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Exhibition.
“Tom’s skills are not just in composing and progressing his own work to a high standard, but in encouraging and developing the potential in others.
He shows patience, enthusiasm and a natural empathy with aspiring artists that makes his workshops a real joy to attend, with excellent results.”
Paul Torr, Rugby Arts Society
“Many Studio Club members who attended the demonstration have since expressed their delight and appreciation to me. One member in particular said it was the best demonstration he’d ever witnessed.”
John, Stratford Studio Club President
“I have attended several of Tom’s painting workshops and have found them to be most enjoyable. Tom is an enthusiastic and friendly teacher introducing us to new techniques and keen for us to improve our painting style while having fun. Like my fellow student I leave the class looking forward to the next workshop.”
